777 Aviation is a newly reimagined and renovated 318,182 square-foot, 3-story, glass and steel structure.
Originally designed in 1968 by famed Los Angeles modernist architect Craig Ellwood,
Before it became a true classic reborn, it needed significant rehabilitation. The Campbell team was invited to be a consultant on the window portion of the scope.

Our Challenges
The existing single pane glass needed to be brought up to today’s standards in terms of energy efficiency and safety.
California energy efficiency legislation requires that the stringent Title 24 standards be met, and safety codes required the annealed glass be turned into safety glass.

Our Solution
Both concerns were addressed using 3M’s Ultra Prestige Series solar security window film, which allowed the owners to keep the original glass. The high-performance film is thicker than a normal window film yet contains the same heat blocking technology 3M is known for.
The two technologies are combined into a single layer that helped with LEED points by eliminating the need to put all of the original glass in a landfill. The best part, however, is the significant cost savings. Window film is approximately seven times less expensive than a full re-glazing scope.
